Psychological Assessment
What is it?
Psychological assessment is an exclusive practice of psychologists, which, according to the individual's request, parents (when the individual is a minor), or other entities (with the informed consent of the assessed person or their legal representative), allows for the identification, analysis, understanding, and the definition of intervention strategies and recommendations for the presented psychological areas or issues.
It usually consists of three stages:
- Interview: Allows the identification of the objective and/or request presented and the collection of anamnesis data (significant personal, family, educational, professional, social, psychiatric, and medical life events);
- Application of assessment tools: Previously researched and selected based on the request;
- Feedback and discussion of the assessment report.
The types of psychological assessment are diverse and depend on the reason and request:
- Assessment of Intellectual Competencies (intelligence)
- Personality Assessment
- Psychopathological Assessment
- Neuropsychological Assessment
- Memory Assessment
- Vocational Guidance
- Child Development Assessment
- Evaluation of School Readiness (for entry into the 1st grade before the age of 6)
- Psychopedagogical Assessment (learning difficulties)
- Pre-Surgical Assessment
- Recruitment and Selection
